You've Gotta Have Style.

Bruce Lee says you must be like water.
"Pour water - it becomes the cup". He says as a human "If you want to express youself totally and completely" you can't just have one style. You must push yourself to have range and be able to adapt and create/learn multiple styles. Because style is "a crystalization".
Super Artist Milton Glaser (I Heart NY) says styles are too confining. Because once a "style" is created there is an expectation to create in only one style people are used to.
Marcel Duchamp the father of conceptual art refered to his paintings as his "swimming lessons" because he'd bounce between styles, and abandon the style just as soon as he mastered the style. Then he simply quit painting all together, saying that he would paint if he could think of another thing to paint. That's balls and integrity at it's finest.

So, while I have a few unique styles and paint application techniques,
I've been challenging myself to create another style nobody can F With.
And also to come out in my first solo show with so many different styles that people can't say "oh Dave Wright that artist who does ____ style"
(Dan Colens a good exaple of the range of styles I'd like to have before my show
He does- Gum Paintings - Kiss Based Lipstick Paintings http://www.vbs.tv/watch/art-talk/dan-colen - Bird Crap Paintings - Disney based realistic paintings -styles upon styles - thus he could really do whatever he wants with whatever material and nobody will be surprised )

It took forever, and wastes a sh*tload of paint, but I think I'm there.
Technique leaves me with Nice Thick Texture, & Quality Fluid Rhythmic Color/Shapes.

Overall I'm quite happy with the results. I'm about 2-5 hrs from completing this bad boy. Easily 80+ hrs (takes 1 hour to tape off 1 line sometimes (w/all the overlaying areas I have to mask off w/blue tape all small like a surgeon)). Gloss Varnishing(clear coating) the surface at the end. To give it a nice sheen and to fuse the layers.

The desired vibe was- "what if you could go into and live/party inside a vintage psychadelic rock'n'roll concert poster(that is ultimately all tied in with the ocean/beaches/wave riding/music & rhythm)".

To me any quality vintage psychadelic rock poster - was saying "this is a fresh once in a lifetime event that you don't wanna miss, come party down, in an out-of-this-world envirnoment, brought direct to you here on earth". I just wanna take it a step further & encourage the viewer to dive into that environment of crystalized, fluid psychadelic, linework reminiscent of a classic vintage psych rock poster. Ultimately creating an envirnoment of surfed out, psych rock party, freshness.

But overall it's really about a perfect moment surfing. Riding waves on the best day you waited years for, where somehow u can do no wrong, and everywhere you go/everywhere you look is a pristine wave firing off perfectly. All while your favorite song plays in your head. (True Waveriders know wut I'm talking about.)
